Croatia Animafest Zagreb to host Iran animation ‘Light Sight’

Iranian short animation ‘Light Sight’ is to be screened at Animafest Zagreb, Croatia.

Iranian short animation ‘Light Sight’ is to be screened at Animafest Zagreb animation festival in Croatia.

Directed by Seyyed Moslem Tabatabaee, the 7-minute animation is to vie at the 27th edition of the Croatian event.

Experiencing many appearances in world festivals, ‘Light Sight’ is Iran’s only representative in the festival.

“The animation has one character and one setting,” Tabatabaee told the media, adding that, “The character tries to escape from the room to get to the light he sees outside."

The 3D animation has won awards in scores of international festivals before.

It won the best 3D animation award at the Social Machinery Film Festival in Italy earlier this year.

“Since its establishment in 1972, Animafest Zagreb and its competitions, retrospectives, presentations, exhibitions and all other additional events have consistently influenced and greatly contributed to their city’s artistic life, as well as promotion of animation art throughout the world,” the official website of the festival wrote.

The festival is scheduled to be launched on June 5, 2017 and runs till June 10.

A plot description of the animation published on a festival website read, “M.E., the character of the story, is born inside a room made of varied sized spheres and brightened by a floating light. While M.E. is greatly astonished by the light, the spheres start glittering with colorful displays and attract him to themselves.”

It adds, “M.E. loses himself playing with the spheres, which now respond to the commands of his hands. He suddenly notices the light. In an effort to bring the light under his command too, he orders it arrogantly. With the disobedience of the light, M.E. pulls out the surrounding spheres selfishly and climbs them to reach the light. Just before he could reach it, he becomes imprisoned amongst the spheres.”

“With a merciful touch of the light, M.E. is freed from that misfortune. This leads to the greater fascination of M.E. to the light … a miraculous drop of his tear, changes the nature of spheres and M.E. himself to a peaceful state; a peace that ultimately enables him to attain the light,” the animation description concludes.
